After successfully collaborating on Hotels.com for Windows Phone, Matchbox Mobile were chosen to bring the Award winning, world-renowned Hotel booking experience to the upcoming Windows 8 platform.
The Windows 8 OS was still in development and Hotels.com had recently received a new global corporate brand identity, providing exciting design and development challenges. Matchbox worked closely with Hotels.com and the Microsoft’s Windows 8 team to marry the new brand to the new platform. “We were able to build on our experience of Windows Phone to an extent”, explains James Morse, Creative Director at Matchbox. “Although they share the same design language, Windows 8 is not all about mobile. The experience had to work just as well on a tethered PC in an office as a tablet in a café, so the user scenarios required a rethink.”

Rik Dodsworth, Matchbox CTO, says, “Writing for a whole new platform like Windows 8 was very exciting. We had to master entirely new concepts like Charms integration, and adapt to frequent changes as new interim versions of the OS were released.”
“We are very pleased with the results and the reviews we’re seeing from our customers,” said Daniel Craig, eCommerce Director at Hotels.com. “The customer experience is absolutely paramount. We need to ensure that our customers get the same great feel, information and efficiency, no matter what device they are using. Therefore when launching onto a new platform and UI we knew we needed to ensure this was translated effectively”
Hotels.com is available for Windows 8 PCs, laptops, tablets and also available for Windows Phone.
