Mad Libs is one of the most iconic book series in US history, started in the 50s and still going strong with each new cultural turn. The fun concept of filling in the blanks to make up an amusing, silly or surreal story with friends will never get old.

We were therefore delighted to have been asked by Penguin Random House to bring this interactive story-telling game onto new platforms: the voice-driven smart assistants that have become part of our homes.

First on Alexa, then on Google Assistant, with then-new smart display capabilities, we brought together content, form, context, and real users to define a whole new experience that was still the classic Mad Libs.

And what fun we had. Not just in tuning the user experience, or in creating the right architecture, but in seeing how our test users responded, and how kids and grown-ups alike completed the game with their own inventiveness and participation.

It is a special treat to see your work persist and succeed in the marketplace. Mad Libs remains one of the most popular voice-first games on Alexa and Google Assistant years after its initial launch in 2018.

We have always been excited by the possibilities of voice-gaming in communal settings, and it was a privilege to bring a fun and convivial experience into people’s homes through these emerging new platforms.
