Challenge
The Met Office needed a mobile app that made its vast and highly trusted weather data accessible and engaging, while ensuring critical weather warnings were delivered accurately and reliably. The challenge was balancing usability, innovation, and absolute precision in warning delivery.
Our thinking
We focused on making weather warnings central to the experience while enhancing engagement through intuitive design and augmented reality. By prioritising clarity and reliability, and layering in innovative features like AR and live updates, we could deliver both trust and usability.
Execution
Matchbox designed and built the official Met Office app, incorporating weather forecasts, warning systems, and augmented reality features. We developed complex logic to ensure accurate warning delivery and implemented live tiles and camera-based overlays to present real-time weather information.
Outcome
The Met Office launched a highly rated app that made weather data more accessible and engaging, while reliably delivering critical warnings to users across the UK.
