Smart Building Reference Kit

Challenge
Semtech wanted to help developers and solution architects quickly understand and experiment with LoRaWAN-based smart building solutions. They needed a practical reference platform that could connect multiple sensors, collect real-time data, and present it through an accessible system for monitoring building activity and environmental conditions.
Our thinking
We recommended creating a complete reference system that combined hardware, connectivity, and a secure web portal. By providing a working end-to-end solution—including sensors, gateways, and visual dashboards—developers could more easily understand how LoRaWAN technology could power real-world smart building applications.
Execution
Matchbox developed the secure web portal and supporting cloud services for the Smart Building Reference Kit. The system integrates LoRaWAN sensors with a web application that visualises real-time and historical data on building usage, environmental conditions, and security. The platform connects the LoRaWAN Network Server with cloud services, databases, and live WebSocket updates to deliver interactive dashboards and monitoring tools.

Outcome
Semtech delivered a practical smart building reference platform that helps developers and product teams explore LoRaWAN-based IoT solutions. The system demonstrates how sensor data can be collected, processed, and visualised to support real-world building monitoring and management.
